Rockaway organizes a series of hackathons. The challenge will be to build an app for Amazon Web Services

The series of hackathons for Prague, Brno and Ostrava during which software developers will be provided with Amazon Web Services (AWS) will start in two weeks. Rockaway wants to give Czech software development community the opportunity to try creating global apps.

“Rockaway is not just investment capital, but also strong technological background. We consider top software developers and applying the most modern technology to be the key to success. Startups of our portfolio have global ambitions and using technologies such as AWS is one of the ways to prepare the product for ranking on foreign markets from the very beginning,” says Dušan Zábrodský from Rockaway.

The goal of hackathons is to show the potential of the newest platforms and tools: “The strongest asset of AWS technology is simple setting, launching on other markets and putting the service into operation. Its subheading could be Global applications easy and fast, ” said Jiří Psota, the head of development in Bileto, who will take part in hackathons as a mentor. “Software developers do not have to worry. It does not matter which programming language they use,” Jiří Psota added.

Participants will be solving problems from the field of fintech, transport or e-commerce. The teams of 4-6 people will have only 30 hours to come with the best solution. Hackathons are supported, besides Rockaway, also by Amazon, who will provide technology and expert lecturers.

Also Rockaway Value Creation Team has participated in preparing the event. ” We are aware of the fields where the potential for new technologies is underused and where is an opportunity to create something new. The assignment is being prepared in such a way that it points to real existing problems. We will use real data which is not normally available and in the end we expect a functioning solution, said Vojta Roček, one of the mentors.

Besides the hackathons, the mentors will attend also the Kick-off Meeting taking place on October 9 at Rockaway headquarters where the participants will have the chance to get acquainted with the assignment, start forming work teams or listen to lecturers´ real case studies.

First hackathon will take place in Impact Hub, Prague, on 16th and 17th October. It will be followed by another one in Brno on 20th and 21st November, and the last one will be held in Ostrava on 11th and 12th December. The registration fee is symbolic 200 CZK.
